My loved one tells me I snore. Should I be concerned?

If you snore, it could be a sign of sleep apnea, a condition in which you stop breathing during sleep for 10 seconds or more. In addition to snoring, sleep apnea sufferers often wake up feeling fatigued, moody, and stressed. If you have any of these telltale signs, talk to Dr. Brodsky, DDS or Dr. Kitahara. Our practice offers dental appliances that are often effective in relieving the symptoms of sleep apnea.

If you think sleep apnea is affecting you, don’t wait until your next routine checkup to see us. Sleep apnea is a serious condition carrying risks such as high blood pressure, heart disease, memory loss, and even premature death. Call our dental office in Bethesda, Maryland today for an appointment.

What is TMJ disorder?

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joints, and we all have two of them. Situated right in front of your ears, these joints connect your jaw to your skull and are surprisingly sensitive to physical, emotional, and psychological stress. A little extra fatigue, or a slight misalignment to your bite, and your whole system can be thrown off causing tension in your head and neck, facial pain, earaches, or clicking in your jaw.

TMJ Disorder is common in our culture, but the good news is it’s treatable. If you’re experiencing symptoms of TMJ disorder, talk to Dr. Brodsky, DDS or Dr. Kitahara. Our dentists can fit you with a custom appliance to alleviate the discomfort associated with TMJ disorder. In addition, our dentists can recommend procedures to restore balance and function, such as traditional orthodontics. Call today for your consultation.

Should I be concerned about mercury fillings?

The American Dental Association has said the mercury level in amalgam fillings is safe. However, Dr. Brodsky, DDS and Dr. Kitahara prefer to take the most conservative approach and place tooth-colored fillings made of composite materials. Not only are they as durable as traditional fillings, they blend with the color of your tooth keeping your smile naturally beautiful.

Is laser dentistry safe?

Laser dentistry is very safe. It’s also efficient and minimally invasive. Currently, lasers are used in the treatment of gum disease, root canal cleaning, decay detection and elimination, bonding material curing and strengthening, incision cauterizing and tissue fusion, and super-fast teeth whitening procedures. Lasers are also comfortable and can lessen or eliminate the need for anesthetic injections (woo hoo!). Additionally, our patients appreciate the shorter healing time laser dentistry provides.
